Statement by the PMR Ministry of Foreign Affairs

05/20/26

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic wholeheartedly welcomes the signing by the President of the Russian Federation of a Decree establishing special rules for granting Russian citizenship to all residents of Pridnestrovie.

This decision is an important and timely measure to support the hundreds of thousands of Russian compatriots who reside permanently in Pridnestrovie. The new mechanism strengthens the security and social protection of Pridnestrovian citizens amid ongoing regional instability and serves the fundamental interests of the multinational Pridnestrovian people, who are culturally linked to Russia by shared historical, cultural, linguistic, and spiritual values.

The adoption of the Decree attests to Russia’s responsible mission as the leading guarantor and mediator in the international settlement process. We highly appreciate the fact that the Russian President’s decision was made at a time when Pridnestrovie is facing unprecedented blockade pressure and economic aggression unleashed against it by neighboring Moldova.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its gratitude to the leadership of the Russian Federation and is convinced that the implementation of the Decree will contribute to the further strengthening of Russian-Pridnestrovian humanitarian, cultural, educational, and socio-economic ties, qualitatively developing and expanding the common space for cooperation.
