Following up on the discussion initiated during the meeting with PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted talks between Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev and a delegation of heads of diplomatic missions, including Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium Evert Marechal, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark Soren Jensen, Ambassador of Ireland Myles Geiran, and Ambassador of Italy Giuseppe Maria Perricone.
During the meeting, a wide range of topics was discussed, with a focus on the current situation and the prospects for the negotiation process. The Foreign Minister noted that, at this stage, the Moldovan side is not ready for constructive dialogue with Pridnestrovie, refusing to implement signed agreements, avoiding high-level meetings, and minimizing interaction within the framework of activities by representatives on political issues and expert (working) groups. At the same time, he said, Chisinau is increasing pressure on the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic by applying a whole range of restrictive measures regarding the economy, freedom of movement, criminal prosecution of citizens, and others.
Vitaly Ignatiev emphasized the need to revive the “5+2” format as an international and legitimate instrument capable of exerting a disciplining effect on the dialogue between the parties. Many challenges today, and that optimal solutions can only be developed through equal, civilized, and results-oriented negotiations. He emphasized that the main goal of efforts to resolve the conflict must be to ensure the rights, freedoms, and interests of citizens, including the identity needs of the Pridnestrovian people.
